THE SKY IS THE LIMIT.
I SAY, WHY STOP THERE?
JASON, DEPUTY STORE MANAGER
In July 2000, Lidl burst onto the Irish grocery market and changed the face of shopping in Ireland for the better with top quality products made available at the lowest possible prices. Since then, we have opened over 190 stores across the island of Ireland and are proud to be the market leader in discount retailing in Ireland. What is our recipe for success? The answer is simple – our people. It is our dedicated and committed workforce that has helped us to cement our enviable position as Ireland's favourite grocery retailer.
The very first Lidl store opened in Ludwigshafen in 1973. Since then Lidl has expanded throughout Europe, now operating in over 30 countries, with more than 10,000 stores and over 140 Regional Distribution Centres. Lidl currently has the largest network of discount grocery retailers in Europe. Lidl Ireland alone, now employs over 4,500 employees nationwide. We employ people in various capacities, from a variety of different backgrounds and with different levels of expertise.
Our values are core to everything we do, to be successful in Lidl you will champion our values in everything you do. Our four values are respect, responsibility, recognition and trust. We respect each other's differences and we're consistent and fair. But we also respect our workplace, our products, their origin and our customers. We serve the nation, that's a huge responsibility. Each and every one of us shares in that responsibility and we are always prepared to step up and step in when tasked with challenges. Our customers trust us to provide the best produce, the freshest food. We trust each other to work hard, work smart and bring our expertise and enthusiasm to work every day. Honest feedback is so, so important. If any of us can do things better, we must. That's how we stay ahead of the competition. But even more important than that is recognition for a job well done. #WeAreLidl – we make it happen.
Training and Development
At Lidl, we recognise that our people are our greatest asset and that our success is hugely attributable to the commitment and dedication of our workforce. Career development and training are of major importance to us. In fact, many of our managers have successfully advanced in their careers, from starting positions in our stores. All employees are provided with the training and support they need to reach their full potential and to progress within the company. Structured, on the job training is the foundation of our training concept, giving our employees the opportunity for further development both professionally and personally. At Lidl we believe that training is the most important investment we can make in our people.
Corporate Social Responsibility
At Lidl, we take seriously our role within the communities in which we work and strive to achieve "a better tomorrow". We are proud to work with over 200 local suppliers and actively engage in communities across Ireland through our charity partnerships, donation programmes and LGFA sponsorship. Alongside our community initiatives we are also committed responsible sourcing, protecting our environment and encouraging and developing our dedicated team of Lidl colleagues. Together, #WeAreLidl
